1. Starbucks closures impact Portland, but local coffee shops see opportunity (kgw.com) — Several Starbucks locations in and around Portland are closing by the end of this week, forcing some customers to find new coffee spots and leaving employees to transfer or take severance. While a few stores, like one on Southeast Powell, have already shut their doors, independent shops such as All Your Heart Coffee see a chance to welcome displaced regulars.
   

2. Swickard Group adds Park Avenue West to downtown Portland investment portfolio (kgw.com) — A major investor just bought a 90% stake in downtown Portland's Park Avenue West tower, adding more than $100 million to an already sizable portfolio of local properties. With high office vacancies still challenging downtown, Jeff Swickard is betting on smaller tenants, lower rents, and even a possible Big Pink observation deck to help bring workers, businesses, and everyday Portlanders back.
   

3. Despite shelter closures, Portland mayor says the right measure isn't beds lost but those still empty (kgw.com) — Portland's mayor says the key homelessness metric is empty shelter beds, even as the city closes facilities like the Northrup shelter in Northwest Portland. A nearby women's shelter, Bethanie's Room, now reports being full nightly and turning away several women each night, raising questions for residents about how shrinking capacity and budget cuts affect unsheltered neighbors and neighborhood services.
   

4. High On Fire Announce New U.S. Tour Dates Through 2027 (themosh.net) — High On Fire has added a Portland stop to its newly announced U.S. tour, with a show set for December 30 at the Roseland Theater. Local metal fans can mark their calendars now as the band swings through the Northeast first, then returns west for Portland and Seattle dates that carry the tour into the new year.
   

5. Portland celebrates Dolly Parton Day with music, big hair and rhinestones (koin.com) — Downtown Portland just turned Darcelle XV Plaza into a sparkling tribute to Dolly Parton, complete with live music, drag performances, and a big community singalong. City leaders recently proclaimed Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day, honoring her music and children's literacy work, and urged Portlanders to keep her spirit alive by reading to kids, connecting with neighbors, and supporting Imagination Library programs across Oregon.
