Portland Police Adds Seven New Officers

New officers include a couple from Nevada who moved here to join the force, an immigrant from Somalia and a several veterans.

Portland. Say hello to Lindsey Bechtel and her boyfriend, Bryson Kamaka. They just moved here from Las Vegas with their two cats and two dogs. It was a 21-hour road trip.

She had been in the National Guard and just got his degree in environmental science. Both love the outdoors and helping people.

Which is good because on Thursday, they were sworn in as two of Portland's seven newest police officers.

  • Abdulkadir Anshur, whose family came to Portland in 1996 from Mogadishu, Somalia. He is a graduate of Franklin High School and Portland Community College;
  • Corey Cronkhite, who grew up in Puyallup, served in the Coast Guard and was stationed in Kuwait and Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He worked as a child protective service worker in Oregon and a probation and parole officers in Washington.
  • Jason Fitzgerald, who has been a reserve Portland officer since 2013, has worked in public service most of his career, most recently as a Customer Service Lead for the Portland Water Bureau.
  • Jeffrey Livingston spent four years with the Coast Guard in Seattle where he worked a variety of assignments including search and rescue, law enforcement, and base operations. He then worked in Washington as a correction officer and went on to be a manager for a company providing services to medically fragile patients and companion services for the elderly.
  • Daniel Nipper is a Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific and Arabian Gulf before becoming a police officer in Pennsylvania where he grew up.

The new officers will head to the academy followed by field training in precincts.
