Montco's U.S. Rep. Boyle: President Trump's State Of The Union A 'Minefield Of Malfeasance'

Local U.S. Congressman Brendan Boyle called President Trump's State of the Union a "minefield of malfeasance."

Local Democrats were not exactly wooed by the calmer, more inclusive version of President Trump presented to the world on Tuesday night.

Montgomery County's U.S. Representative Brendan Boyle (D-13) condemned the President's words as "broken promises" in a statement issued after the State of the Union.

"Tonight, the President issued a worn and weary campaign stump speech instead of a realistic blueprint for moving our country forward. It is now clear this president is more interested in campaigning instead of doing the hard work of governing," Boyle said.

Boyle attacked Trump on four fronts: Trump's support of Wall Street, his battle against the Affordable Care Act, his ties to Russia, and his Muslim ban.

The State of the Union was Trump's first major speech of his presidency and his first address of Congress. It received generally high ratings, as an estimated 28.2 percent of American households tuned in, according to CNN. Many characterized Trump's moderate tone as presidential. He received a bipartisan standing ovation when he addressed Carryn Owens, the widow of fallen Navy SEAL William Ryan Owens.

Boyle said that Trump's characterization of his regime in his speech was markedly different from reality, calling the current situation a "minefield of malfeasance."

Boyle's 13th Congressional district covers a large swath of Montgomery County, including Abington, Cheltenham, Upper Moreland, Hatboro, Horsham, Colmar, East Norriton, Lafeytte Hill, Lower Moreland, and parts of King of Prussia. The local leader recently announced that he would be holding a series of in-person town hall meetings over the coming weeks to address the concerns of constituents.
