Wissahickon School District Faces Charges of Hazardous, Illegal Conditions at Elementary School

WSD Transition Plan Includes Creation of Illegal and Unsafe Conditions at Elementary School

Have YOU seen the transition plan that the WSD created for Mattison Avenue Elementary students?

A photo submitted by a concerned parent of conditions at Mattison Avenue Elementary School has parents and Ambler borough leadership scrambling during the final days of school.

Upon further investigation, it is learned that the superintendent and the board demanded the entire school, which is set to close next week, stop functioning and start packing.

Instead of enjoying the final days of school and the end of an era, students are functioning in hazardous, illegal conditions, surrounded by boxes packed last week by teachers and staff.  While the teachers and staff were busily packing, the students have been watching movies.  Administration and the board decided that the boxes should stay in the hallways, rather than moving them out of the school, creating a situation so that only one person at a time can walk between the boxes.

The district has known since January 14th that Mattison Elementary was closing.  This is one example of their transition plan - blatant disregard for the children, staff and teachers while working in unsafe, illegal conditions.

In response to outraged parents and a concerned member of Council, Ambler borough leadership has responded in defense by ensuring the fire marshall and the code enforcement officer inspect the building for safety and continued occupation.  These are the folks who are looking out for the kids of the WSD.  Where is the administration and board?

The business manager for the school district, Wade Coleman, was on site this morning, directing others to load boxes into a tiny pick up truck.

You were expecting a plan?  Take a good look at the photo.

This IS the plan.
