Alex's Original Lemonade Stand Hits $1M Milestone

$140 million was also raised through supporters, partners, and special events in the childhood cancer fight.

WYNNEWOOD, PA – Alexandra "Alex" Scott started Alex's Lemonade Stand to help other children who were battling cancer. Now, her "original" lemonade stand has reached a huge milestone since Alex held her last stand at Penn Wynne Elementary before losing her life to cancer in 2004.

On Saturday, June 10, the Original Lemonade Stand reached a $1 million mark, in addition to the $140 million the Foundation has raised through supporters, partners and special events in the fight against childhood cancer.

"This milestone is so meaningful because Alex's beloved school and community continue to embrace her vision and help us move forward to achieve her dream of curing childhood cancer," said Liz Scott, Alex's mom and co-executive director of ALSF. "I'm grateful that we could all come together to find better treatments and cures, one cup at a time."

Every year, Alex’s “Original” Lemonade Stand commemorates Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation creator Alex Scott’s first lemonade stand and is held on the second Saturday of June during ALSF’s national fundraising event, Alex’s Lemonade Days, which was June 3 to June 11.

Supporters of all ages rang bells, noisemakers and cheered when the milestone was announced shortly before the butterfly release, which commemorates and celebrates the lives of all children fighting cancer, as well as those who have lost their lives to the disease.

Alex’s friends and family continue to hold her lemonade stand in a carnival-like atmosphere with food, games, crafts, face-painting, music, raffles and (of course) lemonade at Penn Wynne Elementary School, the school Alex attended. The 2017 Alex’s “Original” Lemonade Stand was presented by Country Time and Volvo, with additional support from the Rigler family, Lehigh Valley Dairy Farms, Sila Heating & Air Conditioning and Dr. Ian Thomas-Springfield Orthodontics.
