Alleged Wynnewood Credit Card Thief And Vehicle Burglar Arrested, Charged​

Lower Merion Police said 184 thefts from vehicles occurred in just six months, so make sure you lock your cars

The suspect accused of stealing a credit card from a vehicle Lower Merion Township then attempted to use it at a BP gas station has been arrested and charged.

Marquel Baker, 28, of Philadelphia, has been charged with felony forgery; theft by unlawful taking, theft from a motor vehicle; identity theft; receiving stolen property; possession of a counterfeit access device; and unauthorized access device use, court records show.

Baker was arraigned March 7 and held on $10,000 bail. He is slated to appear before Magisterial District Judge Karen Eisner Zucker on March 14 for his preliminary hearing, court records show.

Baker is accused of stealing a credit card from a vehicle on Rock Glen Road on Feb. 12 then attempted to use the card at the City Avenue BP gas station.

Police searched the suspect's residence on March 1 and found evidence connecting him to several theft from motor vehicle incidents in the Wynnewood area, police said.

Lower Merion Police told Main Line Media News that over a six month period from September 2016 to February 2017, 184 theft from vehicle cases have been handled by police.

“Ninety-nine percent were from unlocked vehicles," Lower Merion Police Supt. Mike McGrath said according to the outlet. "Only three vehicles were entered by force.”

Also during that six month period, 23 cars were stolen, according to Main Line Media News.

Police urge the public to remove valuable from vehicle and not to leave keys inside them.
