Business Leader and Philanthropist Jerry Johnson to Chair First Annual Main Line Bike Race on Aug. 20

His long-standing commitment education and health awareness as a volunteer leader made him a natural choice for this esteemed role.

Ardmore, PA…Narberth Ambulance is pleased to announce that Bryn Mawr resident and business owner Jerry L. Johnson, president and CEO of Axum Advisors, LLC and Advisory Member to Narberth Ambulance, will chair the first annual Main Line Bike Race on Aug. 20.

Johnson’s consulting company specializes in aiding entrepreneurs in governance, management and organizational psychology, capitalization and growth strategies.

Prior to his role at Axum Advisors, Johnson focused on the telecommunications industry – where he served as Executive Vice President at Safeguard Scientifics in Devon, PA. Before moving to the area, he was a Senior Telecommunications Executive with U.S. West.

Outside of his work hours, Johnson has a passion for supporting the next generation of leaders – today’s youth. This has inspired him to volunteer his time and expertise to Board posts with Episcopal Academy, AIM Academy, Ursinus College, and Temple University’s College of Education. In addition, he has chaired Legacy Youth Tennis and Education, and has served as a trustee and officer of the Union League of Philadelphia and the Urban League of Philadelphia.

Under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Johnson was appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion and Integrated Public Health.

His long-standing commitment education and health awareness as a volunteer leader made him a natural choice as Chair for the Main Line Bike Race. “Living and working in Bryn Mawr, I know how important it is that residents have the state-of-the art emergency services provided by Narberth Ambulance. We are blessed to have them serve our community,” said Johnson.

“Jerry clearly understands and supports our vision,” said David Zaslow, President of Narberth Ambulance. “We are thrilled that he has taken the lead role with this exciting event.”

The 6-corner criterium-style bike race, consisting of a one-mile loop through Ardmore, located in Lower Merion Township, has a wide-range of competitive cycling categories, as well as a community ride/race for children. The day’s activities will also include a kids’ fun zone, music, food, a food donation drive and a variety of community-focused activities throughout the day. Spectators can watch riders compete along the race loop, which runs along Lancaster Ave., W. Athens Ave., School Lane, E. Athens Ave., and Rittenhouse Place.

All proceeds will support the operations of Narberth Ambulance, which responds to 911 calls in Lower Merion and Haverford Townships, as well as the boroughs of Narberth, Conshohocken, and West Conshohocken.

Narberth Ambulance responds to approximately 11,000 calls per year. Many citizens may not know that Narberth Ambulance is a non-profit organization that is not supported by taxpayer dollars. Less than one percent of the annual operating expenses are provided through grants from the municipalities within the regions that Narberth serves.

“We are proud of the collaborations and partnerships that our non-profit ambulance company has fostered over the years with township officials, the Ardmore Business Association, donors and community members,” said Narberth Ambulance Chief Christopher B. Flanagan. “This race brings us all together for an opportunity to celebrate these relationships, have some fun, and ensure the ‘state of readiness’ Narberth Ambulance maintains to support our community.”
