DUI Checkpoints, Patrols Hitting Lower Merion Streets Next Weekend
Officers will be out in force next weekend to crack down on impaired driving, according to the township.

LOWER MERION, PA – Drive sober or get pulled over. It's a simple message, yet driving under the influence plagues roads in the country, the state, the county and municipalities. That's why Lower Merion Township Police are cracking down on DUIs next weekend.
According to the township, from Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7, the police department will be out in force to combat impaired driving.
Police will have roving patrols and DUI checkpoints as part of a national impaired driving crackdown featuring intensified, highly visible enforcement activities using the tagline "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

A sobriety checkpoint is a highly visible, systematic method for stopping vehicles at a selected location to determine whether motorists are operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, according to the township.
The sobriety checkpoint is being funded by a PennDOT grant and is one of many tools utilized to increase public safety through increased awareness created by high profile enforcement, the township said.
