Free Veteran IDs, Discharge Paper Recording In Ardmore

ARDMORE, PA – Veterans in the Lower Merion area can take advantage of a free service offered by the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds next week at the Lower Merion Township Building.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 5 at the township building, 75 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, veterans can get a free ID that will give them access to discounts from more than 500 businesses, as well as record their discharge paperwork free of charge.

To get the photo ID that will give veterans access to discounts, veterans must bring their DD 214 (military discharge papers) and a photo identification (such as a driver’s license) and will receive their Montgomery County Discount Identification Card in minutes on site.

The ID allows veterans to use discounts for goods and services from over 500 participating county merchants.

Veterans will be able to present these cards to businesses throughout the region, which have agreed to provide the discount to veterans in appreciation for their service to our country.

A list of these merchants is available online here. The list updates monthly, so check back often to see what businesses join the program.

As for the discharge paper recording, veterans only need to bring the same documents (their DD 214 and a photo ID) to have the Montgomery County Recorders of Deeds record the discharge paper for free.

Once recorded, this document can be accessed by the veteran, immediate family, an authorized agent, or county and federal Veterans’ Affairs.

After 75 years the DD214 and any accompanying documents become available online via the public access system online here.

Recording a DD214 will make it easy on a veteran’s family by providing an instant source of information about dates of service, branch, awards and decorations received, and other important details of service.
