Lower Merion Cop Honored For Saving Teen's Life
Officer Matthew Freind intervened when a young resident was threatening to take his own life. A job well done, Ofc. Freind.

ARDMORE, PA – A Lower Merion Township Police officer was recently honored for leaping into action and saving a young resident from self harm recently. Officer Matthew Freind earned recognition from an incident where he intervened when a local teen was planning to commit suicide earlier this year.
Freind responded to a home in Linwood Avenue when a young person was threatening self-harm, according to Main Line Media News.
Freind went into the home, got on the snow-covered roof, and convinced the youth that they needed to live.

The outlet reports Freind safely got the youth from the roof and brought him back inside the home, the outlet reports.
"Officer Freind displayed remarkable courage that day," Lower Merion Township Police Superintendent Michael McGrath said at the recognition ceremony. "He acted selflessly against great danger to rescue the young man. Officer Friend exemplified the highest traditions and values of the Lower Merion Police Department."

Police said Freind was named Officer of the Year in 2014 by the Kiwanis Club of the Main Line.
"Truly one of Lower Merion's finest," police said of Freind.
