Outdoor Bench Donated To Ardmore Library

The bench was given in memory of an avid reader and regular patron of the Ardmore Library.

ARDMORE, PA — On June 30, the Ardmore Library dedicated a new addition to its lovely building. No – not another room - but a new bench placed squarely at the entrance so that visitors can rest and enjoy their books in the outdoors. This bench has a special purpose. It was purchased through a donation made by Lori Gilbert in memory of her friend Michele Harris, who died suddenly. Michele was a special person. Although suffering from both physical ailments and mental illness, she was tenacious, determined, and courageous enough to not let her illnesses define her.

Michele was an avid reader. Her books of choice were mysteries, thrillers, and true crime and she would read up to three novels a day. With few exceptions, if you go to the Ardmore Library and check out a mystery or thriller novel, chances are Michele had read that book. Alex Noble, one of Michele’s favorite authors said, “Success is not a place at which one arrives, but rather the spirit with which one undertakes and continues the journey.” It is in this spirit that Lori decided the best way to remember Michele was to provide a wonderful nook where others could enjoy their books from the Library – perhaps even one of the books Michele read.

On seeing the new bench, Lori said, “Sitting on it did bring back how much I miss my friend, but hopefully many people will be able to enjoy it for years to come. I am proud to honor her and the library in this way. I hope libraries stay around forever to keep the life of books and our love for them going strong!”
