Trash, Recycling Clean Up Days Being Held This Weekend In Lower Merion

Lower Merion Township hosted two free community clean up days last weekend where residents got to trash garbage and recycling for free. If you missed the April 8 and April 9 days or you need to still get rid of junk, you can head to the township public works complex again this weekend.

The free spring cleaning events will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 at the public works complex, 1300 N. Woodbine Ave. in Penn Valley.

Residents can get rid of household appliances, textiles, plastic, glass, newsprint, and plain old trash for free at the events.

Residents can also visit the recycling drop-off center to recycle mixed paper, textiles and commingled items.

All recyclable material must be separated from other household trash, the township said.

Proof of residency, such as a driver's license, is required to participate in the event.

Township crews will be on hand to help residents unload items.

No hazardous waste or electronics will be accepted at the events this weekend.

An "Anything With a Plug" recycling event for Lower Merion and Narberth Borough residents will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 9 a.m. to noon.

A Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held in Lower Merion on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Another cleanup weekend will be held in the fall, on Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th, also from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Residents who cannot participate in one of the Township’s Free Cleanup Weekends can take refuse to the Public Works Complex inexpensively all year long," the township said. "The fee is just four cents per pound; with a minimum charge of 80 cents. TVs, computer monitors, hazardous waste, stones, dirt and concrete are NOT accepted. Other disposal fees include rimless tires, $1.50; tires with rims, $2.50; major appliances, $10."
