Wynnewood Shopping Center Hosting National Night Out Festival

Not only will the event feature fun for kids and adults, it will include child fingerprinting to help give parents peace of mind.

WYNNEWOOD, PA – The Lower Merion Township community is invited to participate in the National Night Out event in Wynnewood on Aug. 1. The event promises fun for the family, as well as safety-focused features such as child fingerprinting.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the Wynnewood Shopping Center, 50 Wynnewood Road.

Attendees can enjoy carnival rides, carnival games, live music, a giant slide, moon bounce, clowns, food and more.

Oh and the Philly Phanatic will be present to meet with all those in attendance.

Additionally, child fingerprinting, police cars, a fire truck, an ambulance will be on hand to education the public on crime prevention and safety.

Attendees are asked to bring a bag of non-perishable food items to donated to ElderNet's Food Pantry.

The event is coordinated by the Lower Merion Community Watch in cooperation with the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and the Lower Merion Police Department.

NATW is a nonprofit, crime prevention organization which works with thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide and has grown to include over 6,500 crime, drug and violence prevention organizations. National Night Out, 'America's Night Out Against Crime,' was introduced by the Association in 1984.

The first National Night Out was introduced early in 1984 with 400 communities in 23 states and 2.5 million Americans participating. The 2013 National Night Out involved 36 million people in 16,500 communities from all 50 states.

While the traditional 'lights on' and front porch vigils remain a part of National Night Out, activities have expanded considerably over the years to include block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies and meetings.
