Nationally Recognized K-12 Scholastic Innovation Expert Grant Lichtman To Inspire the Academic Community on November 13 at The Shipley School

Renowned TEDx speaker, consultant and author to speak on transforming the learning experience

The Shipley School invites the community to join Grant Lichtman, a nationally-recognized K-12 school innovation expert, on Thursday, November 13, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., for an enlightening discussion on transforming K-12 education. Lichtman’s session will teach attendees to embrace foundational change in a rapidly changing world and imagine futures that look very different than the past.

Lichtman, a senior fellow at the Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence, will share what he learned from three months on the road visiting 21 states, 64 schools, and more than 500 exemplary educators. Lichtman is the author of #EdJourney: A Roadmap to the Future of Education and The Falconer: What We Wished We Had Learned in School, as well as his blog “Learning Pond.” He frequently travels around the United States to work with schools and help them develop their strategic vision for the future. A regular commentator, Lichtman spoke at the 2013 TEDx Denver Teachers Conference about his journey to disrupt the industrial-age model and mindset that has defined American education for last century.

Lichtman’s views on education and learning support Shipley’s emphasis on emotional literacy programs, differentiated instruction and deeper learning. In 2011, Shipley partnered with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to develop an emotional literacy program that focuses on instructing students to understand their emotions and manage them effectively. The school offers an integrated and thorough “core values” curriculum devoted to Social, Emotional and Ethical Development (SEED).
