PTA Trying to Set Up School Board Candidates Debate (Sept. 8 B-W Council of PTA Meeting Notes)
Council meets for the first time this school year.
School Board Candidates Debate
During its first meeting of the 2011-12 school year on Thursday, the Baldwin-Whitehall Council of PTA, which includes PTA/PTSA units from , and , established the goal of organizing a public debate between candidates for Baldwin-Whitehall School Board seats.
, candidates Lora J. Kalwarski, Marion M. Shannon, Richard J. Kirsch and Tracy Macek of the each remain in the race to fill one of five soon-to-be-open four-year school board seats during the November general elections.

Candidates Ray Rosing, Diana Kazour, Larry Pantuso and Kevin J. Fischer of the committee each remain in the race for those four-year seats, as well. Sam DiNardo Jr., also of the “Residents” committee, is the lone candidate still in the running for a two-year board seat.
The B-W Council of PTA is hoping to convince members of both committees that a public debate would be valuable to them and the greater Baldwin-Whitehall communities of , and .

Leading the effort to organize the debate will be PTA member Fred Vella. Vella is looking for other volunteers to join the effort.
Vella’s first charge will be to contact the candidates. He must then find a location for the debate and establish rules of order for the debate.
The debate will proceed only if at least six candidates agree to participate.

New Baldwin High School PTSA Officers
B-W Council of PTA President Sandy Costantino recognized new officers for Baldwin High’s PTSA chapter, who were all in attendance at Thursday’s meeting: President Karen Pavlick, Treasurer Amy Murray and Secretary Debbie Clinton. That chapter’s vice presidential position is vacant.
, the B-W Council of PTA officers are Costantino (president), Susan Hayhurst (second vice president), Christina Gruber (treasurer) and Pavlick (recording secretary). The council’s first vice presidential position is vacant.
“I shall not tell you that your burden will be light,” Costantino said to the officers present while reading from a National PTA statement, “but I do say to you that, no matter how much you put into service, you will always receive more than you give. In accepting this trust, you have accepted at once a privilege and a challenge. You must put forth every effort to the end that this organization will serve the children and youth of Baldwin-Whitehall.”
