25 Red Light Violations Reported Per School Day in Bensalem Township

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The school bus lights were flashing. The stop sign was out. But the black vehicle zipped on by.
But that vehicle was captured on video and posted Thursday on the Bensalem Township's Facebook page by police. WATCH VIDEO HERE
This is happening daily, the Bensalem Township Police Department said.

School bus patrol cameras have captured an average of 25 red light violations per school day, police said.
"The safety of our children is way more important than saving one minute on your commute," the police department stated in the post. "Flashing amber signals mean 'proceed with caution and prepare to stop.' It does not mean step on the gas to beat the red signals."

Police are able to capture these speeding vehicles thanks to a joint effort to have all township school buses equipped with security cameras at the start of the school year.
The safety initiative designed to crack down on motorists who fail to stop, police and school officials said.
Police warn that all drivers running stop lights on a school bus are subject to serious penalties for the violations.
