PennDOT to Close Parts of Blue Route at Night for Project

The more than $300,000 project will install reflective markers along I-476.

PennDOT announced that starting April 11 there will be a nighttime project to install new reflective markers along I-476.

PennDOT Safety Press Officer Jenny Robinson told Patch that the reflective markers will replace previously installed ones along I-476 during a night project from April 11 to April 15, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

“The Blue Route is very important, and it’s important to improve the visibility,” she said for drivers who travel at night or during bad weather.

She said that low-cost safety improvement federal funds are being used to pay for the $327,308 project and that Concert Coring Company in Herman, Pa., is the contractor.

According to a press release, work crews will work on one lane at a time on I-476 as they cut notches into the pavement along center and edge lines and ramps so the lens can be fitted. The project is descried as a slow-moving operation in the press release.

The markers are reflective lenses that have a protective metal casting, and each one will be a quarter inch above the road surface.

Montgomery County township:

  • Lower Merion
