
James W. Day, 85, of , died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 in Washington Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born May 2, 1926 in Burgettstown, a son of Albert C. and Florine Crawford Day. He lived most of his life in Canonsburg and had been a member of the Houston United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Day served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and prior to his retirement has been employed as a fitter at the former Ft. Pitt Bridgeworks in Canonsburg. He had last been employed as a custodian at the Western Area Vo-Tech.

He loved his cats and enjoyed being with family and friends and having a good laugh. He was a member of the American Legion Post 902 in Houston and the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg.
On Sept. 14, 1957 he married Norma I. Guidos, who died Feb. 1, 1999. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara D. Curtis (Chris Yesanick) of Washington; his sister, Fances A. Wylie of Houston; his longtime companion Alice Dukes; eight grandchildren, Clark, Chad, Corey, Danielle, Deyka, Jessica, Eric and Jayme; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his wife are his brother, Thomas C. Day, and four sisters; Harriet A. Celento, Dorothy Surich, June Coneby and Gladys Marie Day.
Friends are welcome from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc. at 304 W. Pike St. in Canonsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Clarejean Haury officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery with full military rites being accorded by VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston honor guard. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Washington County Humane Society.
