Bird Walk in Carpenter's Woods

Join Friends of Carpenter's Woods and local bird expert Keith Russell on a Bird Walk in Carpenter's Woods, Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 AM.

Keith is a life-long birder from Mt Airy, currently working as Audubon Pennsylvania's Outreach Coordinator for Philadelphia. He has many years' experience observing birds in the Wissahickon Valley and Carpenter's Woods. Keith is an excellent guide and will help you learn to spot and identify our interesting resident and visiting birds.

Carpenter's Woods is Philadelphia's First Bird Sanctuary and an Audubon Important Bird Area. In May, it is a welcome stopping point for many colorful migrants, including a variety of warblers, thrushes, orioles, tanagers, and cuckoos. The woods is also home to nesting birds, as well, including Wood Thrush, Carolina Wren, Red-eyed Vireo, Acadian Flycatcher, several species of woodpecker, and Eastern Screech-owl. Over 100 species of birds have been spotted in this pleasant woodland.

• Bird Walk is FREE.
• Bring Binoculars, if you have them.
• A Birding Field Guide may be helpful, but is not required.
• Dress for the weather and walking the slight slope of the trails.
