The Chestnut Hill College Music Department presents “The Wedding Singer” on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29 at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 at 2 p.m. in the College Auditorium located at 9601 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
Set in 1985, “The Wedding Singer” pays homage to the era with a score of classic pop songs. Based off of the popular 1998 movie of the same name, the musical tells the story of Robbie Hart, a wannabe rock star and New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. Robbie, devastated after his own fiancée leaves him at the altar, vows to make every wedding as disastrous as his own, but then he meets Julia, a waitress from a wedding venue who helps him reevaluate the true meaning of love and marriage. “The Wedding Singer,” written by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, includes music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin.
