Missing Man Died Of Hypothermia In Polar Vortex: Philly Officials
Gerald Fomalont, the man who went missing amid the polar vortex, died of exposure to the elements, the Medical Examiner's Office said.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia officials released the cause of death for the 60-year-old man who went missing during the brutally cold polar vortex and was found dead over the weekend.
According to the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office, Gerald Fomalont died of environmental hypothermia after being exposed to the harsh winter temperatures.
The hypothermia was exacerbated by hypertensive cardiovascular disease, officials said.

His death was ruled accidental.
Fomalont, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, was reported missing Jan. 31, and was found dead at about 2:48 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 on the 11300 block of Northeast Avenue.

Officers were called there after getting a report of a dead body in the area.
Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene and the body was identified as Fomalont on Monday, Feb. 4, police said.
