Seneca Valley Sweeps Butler County Art Competition

There was a record-breaking crowd for the opening night ceremonies of the Associated Artists of Butler County's Annual Butler County High School Art Exhibit on March 30. The event featured 10 winners from —the most winners of any Butler County school. The SV winners are:

Best of Show:

• Megan Kasperski, intermediate high, Jason Woolslare's class, life-size painting, "Past, Present, and Future”

Painting Category:

• First Place—Deanna Magiske, senior high, Jason Shorr's class, for the portrait painting titled, "Ashley O."
• Third Place—Ashley Ollinger, senior high, James Nagle's class, for "Affable."
• Honorable Mention—Ashleigh Nadzam, senior high, Jason Shorr's class, for "Maiden Voyage."
• Honorable Mention—Emily Skamla, intermediate high, Jason Woolslare's class, for "You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog."

Printmaking Category:

• First Place—Taylor Lantz, senior high, James Nagle's class, for "Sarah Swimming Backstroke."
• Third Place—Shari Sarver, senior high, James Nagle's class, for "Space Man in Color."

Mixed Media:

• First Place—Kelly Pfab, senior high, Megan Bonistalli's class, for "Masked."
• Second Place—Adam Barbe, senior high, Jason Shorr's class, for "Directional."

Photography Category:

• Third Place—Deanna Magiske, senior high, James Nagle's class, for "Out of the Light, Into the Dark."

More Art Accolades

The 2011-12 Pittsburgh Technical Institute Art Competition had more than 700 pieces of work submitted by 389 students representing 70 high schools and six states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, New York and Virginia.

The winners from Seneca Valley are:

Fine Art 2D Category:

• Third place—Laura Stewart, intermediate high - $4,000 scholarship.
• Honorable Mention—Molly Sweeney, senior high - 3,000 scholarship.

Fine Art 3D:

• Second place—Sara Kipin, senior high - $5,000 scholarship.

Ceramics Category:

• Second place—Sarah Holzer, senior high - $5,000 scholarship.
