Late District Judge Charles McLaughlin To Be Honored

Painting of the Brookline Boulevard staple to be unveiled on April 11.

BROOKLINE, PA - For decades, Charles McLaughlin was a fixture along Brookline Boulevard, first as the proprietor of an insurance business and later as a district judge. So it’s fitting that an event to honor his memory will occur along the boulevard in his former office.

The Brookline Block Watch will pay tribute to McLaughlin at its April 11 meeting at current District Judge Jim Motznik’s office at 736 Brookline Boulevard. Members of McLaughlin’s family are expected to attend a reception marking the unveiling of a portrait of him that Motznik commissioned.

McLaughlin and his wife, Marie, moved to Brookline in the 1960s. He became well known in the neighborhood for his insurance business, the McLaughlin Agency, before being elected district judge in 1985. His district included Brookline, Beechview, Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights.

In addition to his duties as judge, McLaughlin chaired the block watch program and was an active member of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce.

McLaughlin retired in 2009 but continued to hear cases as a senior district judge until shortly before his death. McLaughlin succumbed to liver cancer in September 2015.
