Vexing Liberty Bridge Rehab Work To Continue
Latest closures and restrictions sure to frustrate motorists traveling to and from Downtown and the South Hills.

The latest round of construction in in and around the Liberty Bridge and the Liberty Tunnel promises to try the patience of motorists traveling between Downtown Pittsburgh and the Dormont-Brookline area.
A dizzying number of ramp and road closures and restrictions will occur as PennDOT continues its $80 million rehabilitation of the bridge. They begin Saturday, when the bridge and inbound tunnel lanes will close to traffic from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Here’s what you need to know to navigate around the bridge and tunnel in the immediate future:

- The outbound tunnel will be open for the entire weekend and be accessible via McArdle roadway and Arlington Avenue.
- The inbound tunnel and bridge lanes will reopen to traffic from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, then close again until 5 a.m. on Monday.
- The bridge’s outbound lanes will reopen to traffic at 5 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. on Monday.
- Ramps to and from the bridge to the Boulevard of the Allies will close for 80 days beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.
- The Boulevard of the Allies between the bridge and Grant Street, and the bridge ramps to and from the Boulevard of the Allies, will close at 6 a.m. on Monday for 80 days.
- The inbound tunnel and the bridge in both directions will close from 8 p.m. on April 3 through 5 a.m. on April 4, but the outbound tunnel will remain open. The ramp from Interstate 579 (Crosstown Boulevard) to the Boulevard of the Allies will be closed from 5 a.m. on April 4 until 5 a.m. on April 11.
