The Central Bucks School District is considering the how (or if) to pay the district's spring sports coaches because of the cancelled spring season, according to one Facebook group.

The Central Bucks East Parents group is circulating a post urging the district to pay spring coaches their full pay, based on the full-year nature of most sports today.

Spring sports were officially cancelled by PIAA on April 9, following the shutdown of all Pennsylvania schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

The post notes, "While true that the spring games and meets were cancelled due to the pandemic, these coaches have continued to serve and support our student-athletes by holding virtual workouts, speaking to college coaches about athletic scholarships, and being a source of continuity and comfort for the students.

"(T)hese coaches have been working since the beginning of the school year organizing and holding off-season training sessions, strength programs, and counselling and assisting student athletes regarding college opportunities," the post continued.

The April 28 meeting will take place remotely, and not available for live public viewing, according to the CBSD website:

"In accordance with governor’s orders, the April 28, 2020 meeting of the Central Bucks School District Board of School Directors will be conducted remotely and recorded for public review. Individuals who wish to submit public comment are asked to submit their comment in advance at www.cbsd.org/public_comment. If any member of the public requires assistance in order to submit comment, they are asked to contact Jason Jaffe at jjaffe@cbsd.org at least 24 hours prior to the meeting (before 7:30 p.m. on April 27, 2020.) All public comment received prior to the meeting’s start time at 7:30 p.m. on April 28, 2020 will be shared with members of the board for their consideration during the public comment portion of the meeting.

The April 28 agenda posted on the CBSD website does not specifically mention the spring coach payment issue.

One comment pointed to the April 15 New Jersey law providing "the immediate requirement to pay coaches and other after-school advisers their full stipends, regardless of whether these extra- and co-curricular activities take place this spring."
