Fired CB West Guidance Counselor Gets Job Back

The school board voted to reinstate MaryKate Blankenburg, who was fired last year over controversial comments on Facebook.

A Central Bucks West High School guidance counselor who was fired last year for controversial comments on Facebook has been rehired.

The school board unanimously voted to reinstate MaryKate Blankenburg, who filed a grievance over the loss of her job. Blankenburg has been reinstated effective Feb. 16.

Blankenburg was fired in January 2015 following a post the month before that said: “If my child cannot get to the Eagles game due to protestors, I will personally SHOOT every one of them. You’ve been warned idiots!!”

Blankenburg was placed on administrative leave immediately after the controversial post and then fired the next month. The post was referring to a ”die in” protest after the Eagles game in response to grand jury decisions against indicting white police officers in the deaths of two black men.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office investigated the post. Authorities there said the post was “inappropriate” and “ill-advised” but not criminal. No charges were filed. Blankenburg lives in Montgomery County, which is why the matter was investigated there.

Blankenburg initially said she did not write the post but later admitted to investigators that she in fact did write it.
