Vote To Rehire Fired Central Bucks Guidance Counselor Is Tonight
MaryKate Blankenburg was fired from CB West in January 2015 after a controversial Facebook post saying she'd shoot protestors.

The Central Bucks School Board will vote tonight (Feb. 9) on whether to reinstate a Central Bucks West High School guidance counselor who was fired last year over a controversial Facebook post.
MaryKate Blankenburg was fired in January 2015 following a post the month before that said: “If my child cannot get to the Eagles game due to protestors, I will personally SHOOT every one of them. You’ve been warned idiots!!”
According to the agenda for tonight’s meeting, Blankenburg is being considered for reinstatement effective Feb. 16. Her proposed salary was not listed.

Blankenburg was placed on administrative leave immediately after the controversial post and then fired the next month. The post was referring to a ”die in” protest after the Eagles game in response to grand jury decisions against indicting white police officers in the deaths of two black men.

A school board member told The Intelligencer that she didn’t think Blankenburg should have been fired “over one action.”
“I am pleased she is returning to her role,” director Karen Smith said to the publication.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office investigated the post. Authorities there said the post was “inappropriate” and “ill-advised” but not criminal. No charges were filed. Blankenburg lives in Montgomery County, which is why the matter was investigated there.
Blankenburg initially said she did not write the post but later admitted to investigators that she in fact did write it.
