Fourth Of July To Bring Old-Fashioned Fun To Fonthill Castle

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Fonthill Castle’s annual Fourth of July community celebration returns to the grounds of the National Historic Landmark on Tuesday, July 4 from 12 to 4 p.m.

This family-friendly event takes place on the one-of-a-kind, outdoor grounds of Fonthill Castle in the heart of Doylestown where guests enjoy a day of fun, food, games, crafts, entertainment, and live music.

Highlights of the day include the children’s decorated bike parade, wheelbarrow and sack races, live musicians, and food trucks. Antique bicycles, historic town ball (a precursor to baseball), and other fun activities make this a day to remember.

Children will kick off the event by participating in the event’s beloved Decorated Bicycle Parade at12:30 p.m. where all participating children receive cheers from the crowd and a special certificate after pedaling down the historic site’s famed tree-lined driveway on their pre-decorated bicycles.

Event attendees will also enjoy music for all ages by the Ring the Rafters Quartet, The Delaware Valley Saxophone Quartet, Doylestown favorite Mukamuri, as well as popular family performer Lolly Hopwood.

The PA Wheelmen will be on hand for their annual Antique Bike Demonstration, and musician and folklorist Darcy Fair will engage families during story time.

Guests have the opportunity to purchase food from a variety of vendors on-site, including BigPoppa’s BBQ, Bonjour Creperie, Hardy Funnel Cake, Nutz About Popcorn, and more.

The 2023 Fonthill Castle 4th of July sponsors are William and Laurie Schutt, Bucks County Community College, and NJM Insurance.

Tickets to Fonthill Castle’s 4th of July are $5 for adults, $1 for youth (ages 6-17), and free for children 5 and under. Tickets are available online now at mercermuseum.org/july4 and will be available at the door for cash only.
