How Long is Too Long to Wait at a Traffic Light?

One Buckingham resident says he's tired of playing the waiting game.

It’s a waiting game.

Drivers stopped at Edison Furlong Road and Route 263 know exactly what that means.

And one of them brought it up to Buckingham Township Supervisors recently at their regular end-of-the-month business meeting.

During the public comment part of the meeting, township resident Edward Deschamps asked supervisors if they were aware of any problems regarding that traffic signal.

“That thing just doesn’t work right,” he said.

It’s a problem for drivers traveling along Edison Furlong Road.

Whether early in the morning, mid-day or late at night, “You can wait there 5 to 6 minutes to get a green light, and when you get the green light, then it only lasts for 2 to 3 seconds,” complained Deschamps.

Township engineer Dan Gray of Knight Engineering Inc. said that traffic light is one of a few on Route 263 that are linked together with loop detectors, including one at Swamp Road and another further south at Sugar Bottom Road.

Supervisors said they would have the township roadmaster review the problem.
