BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Friday marks the end of a restaurant era in Bucks County with the closing of Ota-Ya in Newtown.

The owners of the popular Japanese restaurant known for its sushi and tempura are closing the doors and retiring this week. They once had restaurants in Newtown, Warrington, Lambertville, N.J., and in New York City.

While Ota-Ya is closing, a new specialty food shoppe is opening at Peddler's Village in Lahaska. The Bucks County Peanut Butter Shoppe is selling everything peanut butter, from spreads to peanut butter cups.

After more than 30 years in business, a Newtown Township staple is closing its doors. Ota-Ya Japanese Restaurant - tucked away on Cambridge Lane behind the 7-Eleven - will be closing its doors on Friday when its owners retire. For more than 30 years, Jeff Wong and Cindy Tam have owned and operated the restaurant, serving generations of families and involving the whole family in its operations.

Jewish Deli Closes Its Doors In Newtown

Three years after opening at the Village at Newtown South, the Borscht Belt has closed its doors. The sandwich shop, themed after the legendary Borscht Belt resort in upstate New York, once known for its nightclubs, restaurants, and entertainment, shut down operations after serving breakfast and lunch on Father’s Day.

Store Brings Peanut Butter Goodness To Bucks

The Bucks County Peanut Butter Shoppe, the newest specialty food store to open at Peddler’s Village, is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28. Located in the Village Green neighborhood, the shop is part of a national franchise founded by Paul Lyons and Scott Parker. Lyons and Parker opened their first business, the Beef Jerky Experience, in 2010, and in late 2025, added the Peanut Butter Shoppe.

A national accreditation program has recognized nine Bucks County senior living communities as "Safest Places to Live" for demonstrating an elite commitment to resident safety. The "Safest Places to Live" program recognizes providers that exceed baseline regulatory requirements in satisfying a rigorous 8-Point Standard of Resident Security.
