Reports Of More Counterfeit Money In Doylestown

An arrest has been made in connection with another counterfeit money incident in Doylestown Township, police said.

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A second incident involving counterfeit bills being passed in Doylestown Township has been reported by police.

In this case, the bills were passed at Pet Valu in late December. Police said "a group of customers" were attempting to use counterfeit bills to make a purchase just before 4 p.m. on Dec. 23.

When police arrived, one of the men who tried to use the counterfeit money — later identified as Raheem Burgess — was still in the store and an employee was able to identify him.

A search found a Pet Valu receipt and five additional counterfeit $20 bills in the man's possession, police said.

Burgess, 28, of Ewing, N.J., was arrested and arraigned. His bail set at 10 percent of $100,000 and he was remanded to Bucks County Prison where is is awaiting a preliminary hearing on March 4, court documents show.

A second incident related to counterfeit money was also reported by police in Doylestown this week. In that case, two counterfeit $100 bills were passed on Jan. 17. Authorities are now using surveillance photos from the scene in hopes of identifying the suspect. Click here for more information on that case.
