DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Rite Aid store and pharmacy at the Doylestown Shopping Center will be closing its doors as part of the company’s bankruptcy proceedings.

The store, located on North Main Street a few doors down from the ACME, was bustling with customers Sunday afternoon with a 50 percent mark down on a lot of merchandise.

Employees at the store confirmed the store closing saying they were notified four days earlier. The last day is scheduled for January 16.

The closing follows on the heels of two other Rite Aid closings in the area including stores at the New Britain Town Center and at the Warrington Plaza at Route 611 and Bristol Road.

Rite Aid’s bankruptcy comes amid slumping sales and heavy debt from an opioid lawsuit filed by the Justice Department in March that accused the company of filling prescriptions for large quantities of opioids “that had obvious, and often multiple, red flags indicating misuse.”

When announcing the first round of closures in October, the company said prescriptions of customers of the affected stores would be transferred to a nearby Rite Aid or other drug store “so that there is no disruption of service." People who work at the stores will also be transferred to other Rite Aid locations where possible, the company
said.

Rite Aid also has a location at Cold Spring Creamery Road and Route 413 in Buckingham Township.
