Sellersville Man Charged In Armed Robbery Of Doylestown Bank

Police said the man fled the scene on a bicycle with $32,000 in a brown paper bag. He was taken into custody a short time later.

DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — A Sellersville man is facing numerous charges after robbing the Wells Fargo Bank on West Court Street in Doylestown Borough Thursday morning.

According to the Central Bucks Regional Police Department, Khalil William Butler, 30, entered the bank around 9 a.m. and told an employee he wanted to make a cash withdrawal. He then instructed the employee to place his hands on the desk while he lifted his shirt to display a firearm.

Police said Butler then instructed the employee, along with the manager, to obtain the cash from the bank's safe. Butler placed $32,000 in U.S. currency in a brown bag, left the bank, and then fled on a bicycle wearing a distinctive jacket.

At 9:22 a.m., Butler was taken into custody by police on Avenue A in Doylestown Borough and positively identified. The $32,000 in U.S. currency was found in Butler’s possession, police said.

Officers also recovered Butler’s jacket and a firearm in a recycling bin in the Westwyk Condominium neighborhood in Doylestown Township.

The Central Bucks Regional Police Department was assisted at the scene by Doylestown Township Police, Buckingham Township Police, New Britain Township Police and the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department.

Butler was charged with robbery of a financial institution, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property, possession of a weapon, robbery threatens, and theft by unlawful taking.

Butler was arraigned and bail was set at 10 percent of $1 million. He was remanded to the Bucks County Prison.
