Symphony Presenting 2 Weekend Pops Concert In Doylestown

The concert will include works by Ellington, Bernstein, Copland, and John Williams, with a special pre-concert reception option.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Bucks County Symphony Orchestra is tuning up with two Pops Concerts this weekend in a musical tribute to American composers and patriotic themes at the Life Science Building on the campus of Delaware Valley University.

The musical weekend begins with a pre-concert reception at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. An additional performance will take place on Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m.

The program will feature music celebrating American culture and heritage. Selections include Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” Leonard Bernstein’s "Overture to Candide," and Aaron Copland’s “Hoe-Down” and “Appalachian Spring.” Music from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma will also be performed.

The orchestra also will play themes from film and television, such as John Williams’ music from "Far and Away," "The Patriot," and "Saving Private Ryan," as well as themes from "Yellowstone" and "Grand Canyon Suite."

Ticket options include general admission for the concert only, priced at $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Premium admission, available for the Saturday performance only, costs $100. Students will receive free admission for the concert only. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Rutherford’s Camera Shop, Doylestown Bookshop, or through the orchestra’s website.

Premium admission includes a pre-concert reception in the upper atrium of the Life Sciences Building. The reception is limited to patrons 21 years of age and older. Julie Flack, a board member with the Oscar Hammerstein Museum, will discuss the ongoing restoration project at the historic Doylestown site. Oscar Hammerstein’s grandson, Will Hammerstein, will aksi share stories about the lyricist.

Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served at the reception, and guests will receive a voucher for a free tour of Highland Farm. Premium ticket holders will also receive preferred seating for the concert following the reception.
