DOYLESTOWN, PA — The signature red and white bullseye sign was lifted into place at the new Target store last week, a sure sign that opening day is just weeks away at the Doylestown Shopping Center.

The 74,500-square-foot store is scheduled to open during the week of July 20, according to Sean Sablosky, the CEO and founder of Arrow Real Estate Services, which handles the leasing of the shopping center property.

“We’re real excited. Target is winding up its work. They are in there right now stocking shelves this week," said Sablosky. "This is exactly what the shopping center was built for. It was built to have a department store in it.

"There’s a long history of wonderful stores at the shopping center starting off in the 1950s with W.T. Grants. And then with Hess’s, the Bon-Ton and now Target. We’re thrilled to add Target to our roster of tenants," said Sablosky.

When it opens, the new store will house a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks in addition to its retail operations. The new store also will offer an order pick-up service allowing customers to order in advance and pick up at the store without having to leave their vehicles.

"We’re excited to bring an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Doylestown community with this new Target store," said a statement released by Target. "As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date."

Sablosky said Target's arrival is a win-win for the community and for the shopping center.

“The Target store is going to employ around 200 people between full- and part-timers. That’s a lot of jobs that are being created,” said Sablosky. At the same time, he said the center has been successful in the reuse of the western end of the center to accommodate the new store.

“How cool is it that they were able to come into an empty department store and the only new construction is just a little tweaking of the facade and on the same exact space that had already been a department store," said Sablosky. "No trees were cut down. No farm got plowed under. And we’re getting a brand new Target."

Following Bon-Ton's closure, Sablosky said there was a lot of interest in the space from numerous retailers, but the decision came down to what’s going to be best for the shopping center and for the residents of Doylestown. “Nothing is beneficial to the shopping center unless it’s what the community wants,” he said. “And I think for the most part people are happy."

The shopping center is also home to more than 20 other businesses, including ACME Market, Planet Fitness, Staples, Famous Footwear, Bacco Italian Bistro, Starbucks, Wendy’s, and Turning Point.

The center has been without a second major anchor since the Bon-Ton Department store closed its doors in 2018. The new Target is being built at the site of the former Bon-Ton store, the Mercantile, Michelle’s Hallmark and Essentials Spa and Salon at the western end of the shopping center.
