House Fire Likely Caused By Christmas Tree, Chief Says

The fire badly damaged a two-story Burnt House Hill Road home Wednesday evening.

Two people were transported to St. Mary Medical Center after suffering from smoke inhalation and burns in a fire that badly damaged a Plumsteadville home on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Plumsteadville Fire Co. Chief Brian Dubree said one of the people injured was then transported to Temple University Hospital for further treatment.

Dubree said initial findings indicate the fire started somewhere around the Christmas tree but officials will further investigate to determine exactly why the home went up in flames.

The fire at the two-story Burnt House Hill Road home was called in around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. It took numerous crews two hours to put the blaze out, Dubree told Patch. He noted the house was completely destroyed.

Dubree said the homeowner attempted to put out the fire for at least 20 mins before firefighters were called. ”We don’t believe the homeowners called 911,” Dubree said, noting a neighbor called.

When firefighters arrived, the second floor was compromised, Dubree said. For safety reasons, “we didn’t put anyone inside,” he said, noting it was hard to get to certain areas.

During efforts to put out the blaze, Central Bucks EMS advised people to avoid the area.

Smoke could be seen for miles, eyewitnesses said.

The fire marshall is still investigating, Dubree said.
