Bucks County Child Found Unresponsive In Snow Has Died

The 5-year-old died Saturday, three days after police say he was choked by his scarf while playing with the family dog in the snow.

The 5-year-old Bucks County boy who last week was found unresponsive in the snow has died, police confirmed.

A GoFundMe page created for the Warrington boy says John Bruno died on Saturday, three days after police say he was accidentally choked by his scarf while playing with the family dog.

Warrington Detectives are following up and working with the Philadelphia Medical Examiner, said Police Chief Daniel Friel. The cause of death has not been confirmed but is expected shortly Friel said.

Police say the tragic accident happened just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Palomino Drive. Friel said the boy was outside playing with the family dog, a hound mix, when his mother looked out to find him face-down in the snow. The dog was tugging and pulling at the scarf, Friel said.

When she went outside, the boy's mother found him unconscious and unresponsive with the scarf "tight around his neck." She carried the boy inside and dialed 911. EMS and police arrived, administering CPR. The boy was transported to Doylestown Hospital, then to CHOP, where he was under heavy sedation before he died.

Meanwhile, the community mourns the "vibrant" boy whose "boundless energy was electric."

"He loved Ninja Turtles, Pokemon, Superheroes and being silly. Above all else John loved his mom, dad, and big sister," the GoFundMe page says.

The page, created Sunday, surpassed its $5,000 goal within hours. As of 9 a.m. Monday, the community has donated more than $12,000 to help the Bruno family with medical and funeral expenses.
