Family Dog Accidentally Strangles Warrington Boy By His Scarf While Playing In Snow: Police
Breaking: Police say the boy was accidentally strangled by his scarf while playing in the snow with his dog. He remains at CHOP.

Warrington Police have released additional details about the boy who was rescued face-down from the snow on Palomino Drive Wednesday. It appears it was a "tragic accident" in which the boy was accidentally strangled by his scarf while playing in the snow with his dog.

According to police chief Daniel Friel, the unidentified 5-year-old boy is alive and under heavy sedation at CHOP after being found unresponsive in his yard at 4:23 p.m.

Friel said the boy was outside playing with the family dog, a hound mix, when his mother looked out to find him face down in the snow. The dog was tugging and pulling at the scarf, Friel said.
When she went outside, the boy's mother found him unconscious and unresponsive with the scarf "tight around his neck."

She carried the boy inside and dialed 911. EMS and police arrived, administering CPR. The boy was transported to Doylestown Hospital, then to CHOP, where he remains under heavy sedation, Friel said.
The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary details indicate it was a "tragic accident," Friel said.
