Central Bucks YMCA Offering Program On Exercising While Pregnant

The program is designed to provide opportunities, advice and options for women exercising before, during and after pregnancy.

Central Bucks Family YMCA is proud to recognize Doylestown Women’s Health Center as a 2nd year sponsor of the Stork Club program. This program, supported by the physicians at Doylestown Women’s Health Center, is designed to provide opportunities, advice and options for women exercising before, during and after pregnancy.

Patients at the Doylestown Women’s Health Center are provided a 3-month membership to the Y aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle by participating in approved exercise classes whether they are considering pregnancy, newly pregnant or recently delivered. To make the program even more accessible, the Y provides child care services for children after three months of age.

Since January 2017, the program has provided memberships and services to over 65 women who were pregnant, considering pregnancy or recently pregnant including Jamie Gupta, a recent Stork Club participant who joined the Doylestown branch through the program when her child was 6 months old. “I am so glad that I joined. I was able to start working out a couple days a week and my son was able to go into the Stay and Play (babysitting).”

“Doylestown Women’s Health Center is committed to providing the best pregnancy experience to our patients. We feel the Stork Club partnership with the Y helps achieve that goal in numerous ways. Being active before, during and after pregnancy will empower a woman both physically and mentally and exercise reduces pregnancy complications,” said Dr. Jean Fitzgerald M.D. of Doylestown Women’s Health Center.

“My son and I both needed the experience,” said Gupta. “I started feeling better and getting stronger. Now I am pregnant with my second (child) and feeling like I am having a healthier pregnancy after taking that step to join the Y.
