Chicks Saved From Havertown Church During Fire Call

Nearly a dozen baby chicks were saved from a Havertown church after a heating lamp to keep them warm fell and began burning the carpet.

HAVERTOWN, PA — Crews from all five Haverford Township fire companies helped save nearly a dozen chicks from a church during a fire call Tuesday, according to officials.

The Manoa fire company said on Facebook that it and Llanerch, Oakmont, Brookline, and Bon Air fire company members were called to the Manoa Community Church on North Eagle Road in Havertown.

Crews were called to the church at about 8 p.m. Tuesday for an automatic fire alarm activation and found smoke in one of the church's basement rooms.

There they saw a small fire near a cage that had 11 baby chicks in it.

Luckily, the responders safely got the chicks out of harms way and the building was ventilated, officials said.

According to NBC10, a lamp that was used to keep the chicks warm fell on the floor then started burning the carpet.
