Delco Man Beat, Strangled 81-Year-Old Mother: Police

Christopher Pergolese is facing felony aggravated assault and felony strangulation charges after allegedly beating his mother for a week.

UPPER DARBY, PA – A Delaware County man is accused of beating and strangling his 81-year-old mother over the course of a week, according to police.

Upper Darby Police said Christopher Pergolese, 52, of Drexel Hill, was arrested Sept. 22 for allegedly beating his mother of the course of a week.

Police said the victim's injuries were a "shock to the senses."

Pergolese is behind bars after failing to post $1 million bail, which was set at his Sept. 23 preliminary arraignment, court records show.

He is facing charged of felony aggravated assault, felony strangulation, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person, according to court documents.

Upper Darby Police Chief Michael Chitwood called Pergolese "a true scumbag."

He is slated to appear for his preliminary hearing on Oct. 2, court records show.
