Student In Custody After Gun Reported At Delco High School

A student who had a pellet gun on Upper Darby High School's campus is in custody and students were dismissed early, the district said.

UPPER DARBY, PA – Upper Darby Police said they have an Upper Darby High School student in custody after a gun was reported on the high school campus Thursday, prompting a brief lockdown at the school and leading to an early dismissal.

Police said at about 9:10 a.m. that a subject is in custody.

According to the district, the person in custody had a pellet gun and the lockdown is being lifted.

The district said the lockdown was put in place after a gun was reported to have been seen in a student's backpack at about 8 a.m.

A subsequent search by Upper Darby Police revealed that student had a pellet gun in their backpack.

Police took the student into custody and lifted the lockdown at about 9:25 a.m., the district said.

The district said the schoolday resumed but dismissed early. All after-school and evening activities for the high school are canceled, as well.

Resources are available for all students and staff who need assistance.

"We thank you, our students, our staff, and our police for your efforts to keep everyone calm and safe during this lockdown," acting district Superintendent Daniel P. McGarry said. "I am sorry for the anxiety caused by this morning’s situation and appreciate your support as we always keep our children’s safety as our top priority."
