Haverford Murder Suspect Heading To Trial On All Charges

HAVERFORD, PA – The man accused of gunning down a man in Haverford Township this summer, appeared in court Thursday and will now head to a trial to face numerous charges related to the seemingly senseless killing.

Derrick Hershal Rollins, 24, of Philadelphia, had all charges filed against him in connection with 29-year-old John Le's July slaying held over for trial at his preliminary hearing on Thursday, Oct. 26, court records show.

Rollins will go on to face charges of criminal homicide; first, second, and third degree murder; aggravated assault; prohibited possession of a firearm; robbery; and more in connection with the killing that stunned the quiet Main Line community.

His formal arraignment is set for Nov. 9 in a Delaware County court and he remains behind bars as he was not granted bail.

The fatal shooting occurred at about 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at an apartment on the 2300 block of Haverford Road in the Ardmore section of the township.

Le, of Narberth, was reportedly walking to a friend's home with a pizza when he was shot.

About 45 minutes before Le's death, Rollins also allegedly fired numerous rounds at two men in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood who said they confronted Rollins as he was peering into a neighbors' home.

According to Main Line Media News, a Haverford Township Police Detective and one of the men Rollins allegedly shot at in Overbrook spoke as witnesses at Thursday's hearing.

Rollins, who was taken into custody in Dekalb County, Georgia in late August after multiple law enforcement agencies including U.S. Marshals issued an alert for his arrest, allegedly told the detective that the media made him a "monster" and that he ran from the shooting scene like everyone else did.
