Northern Delco DUI Taskforce Out Looking For Impaired Drivers

Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, and Springfield township police are cracking down on impaired driving through St. Paddy's weekend.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — St. Patrick's Day celebrations often entail imbibing large amounts of alcohol.

And those who plan to get into libations this weekend are on notice in the event they get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will be out this weekend looking for impaired drivers.

Police in Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, and Springfield townships are part of the taskforce.

These departments will be conducting roving DUI patrols through Sunday.

Police in Lower Merion Township are also taking on a DUI crackdown this weekend.

The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce was established in September 2009 and has conducted 112 operations to date.

The taskforce has arrested 179 drivers for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, and issued 47 citations for underage drinking along with 1214 citations and 1,771 warnings for other motor vehicle violations.

The purpose of the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce is to save lives on the roadways and reduce injuries by aggressively enforcing DUI laws.

Sobriety checkpoints are a proactive visual deterrent while also removing impaired drivers; roving patrols are traffic details with the main goals to spot and stop possible impaired drivers before they can cause harm to innocent unsuspecting motorists traveling on our roadways.
