HATBORO, PA —With its grand opening just days away, Ariella's Kids Exchange is putting the final touches together, stocking shelves, and bringing in a collection of clothing that should find a fit for any family in need.

After all, children are the name of the game at this new consignment store, which officially opens at 209 N. York Road near Hatboro Pizza on Saturday.

Cathy Lazauskas owns the business with her husband Michael Weldon. But the business owner of the future happens to be the couple's 10-year-old daughter, whom the store is named after.

"This will eventually become hers. That's the goal," Lazauskas told Patch Wednesday. "She's our pride and joy."

Ariella's Kids Exchange was one of four businesses announced at the recent Hatboro Council meeting that were opening in the borough.

"We decided to open in Hatboro because it's such a family-oriented town and lacked stores for young kids," Lazauskas said.

The shop offers clothing, toys, books, and shoes, besides some new items.

"We have a boutique vibe when you walk in but with affordable pricing. We also will have a room for youngsters to enjoy coloring, playing, and watching a movie so that their parents can shop with ease," Lazauskas said.

A ribbon cutting with Hatboro Chamber of Commerce members is expected to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8.

Lazauskas said the couple started thinking about opening a storefront before the pandemic hit. But now that there's more of a return to normalcy, she said it was the right time to open, especially with the economy.

"People are financially hurting," she said. "We offer good, quality clothing for a decent price."

She said that 80 percent of the stock is used or gently-used clothing and that the shop checks for stains and rips. She said the business will even accept clothing that's a decade old, figuring that styles come back to fashion at some point.

The shop also offers puzzles, baby goods, beach hats, and bathing suits besides toys.

"I'm the clothing lady and my husband is the toys guy," she chuckled.

The business held a soft opening last week so the Huntingdon Valley couple could invite family from Lancaster and New Jersey to see the shop.

The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday (an hour later for working mothers), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Lazauskas said the shop is closed Monday and Tuesday, but hours may be considered for Tuesday in the future.

The store can be reached at 267-405-3113. The business can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
