Celebrating a Century: America's National Parks Essay Contest In Towamencin

Towamencin area students in grades 5 through 8 are challenged to write about National Parks in this unique essay contest.

Each year, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has their annual essay contest for grades 5-8. The Towamencin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring the essay contest for any student in grades 5-8.

The 2016 – 2017 essay contest topic is “Celebrating a Century: America's National Parks”. The National Park Service was established by Congress in 1916 and manages approximately 84.4 million acres of national parks.

This year students will pretend they are writing a journal while visiting one of the 58 national parks. Identify its location. Discuss why and when it was established as a national park. What makes this park one of our national treasures?
