Memoir Writing Part 2

GOING DEEPER INTO THE STORIES OF OUR LIVES

Course description: Students in this class must have completed Memoirs, Part One. We will use poetry, personal essays, music, literature and movies to further examine and write about our lives. The class will include writing exercises and constructive feedback. Topics include conflict, story arc and conclusion. Students will have the option of working on one piece for several weeks, with detailed feedback from the group and the instructor. Everyone will have the opportunity to submit stories for a published booklet to take home as a memento of the class.

Facilitator: Linda C. Wisniewski is a freelance writer in Bucks County, Pa. Her credits include the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Christian Science Monitor, Massage, The Rose & Thorn, The Quilter, Mindprints, two Cup of Comfort anthologies and literary magazines both print and online. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and won first prize in the Mom Writers Literary Magazine Summer Fiction Contest.  Linda’s memoir, Off Kilter: A Woman’s Journey to Peace with Scoliosis, Her Mother and Her Polish Heritage, was published in 2008 by Pearlsong Press. Linda writes feature stories for the Bucks County Herald and a column on women authors for the Bucks County Women’s Journal, and also writes for the website, opentohope.org. She serves on the Board of the Story Circle Network, a national organization of women life writers and is a regional representative of the International Women’s Writing Guild.  Linda has taught memoir workshops for the continuing education division of Bucks County Community College, at writers’ conferences and at retirement centers throughout Bucks County.
