Hatfield Parents Jailed For Leaving Kids In Filthy Home: Report
Animal feces and hunting arrows were within reach of the toddlers, who were left home alone, the report states.

HATFIELD, PA — A Hatfield couple has been sentenced to jail after leaving their young children in filthy and perilous conditions inside their home, according to reports and court documents.
Christopher Berger, 31, and Sara Schmidt, 28, of the 3400 block of Orvilla Road, will spend the next three to 23 months in jail on charges of endangering the welfare of children, court documents show.
The Times Herald reports that animal feces were littered across the floor, and power tools and hunting arrows were within reach of the toddlers.

The children, aged 2, 5, and 6, were also left home alone, the report states.
During the course of the investigation, it was later discovered that another child, just five weeks old at the time, reportedly suffered two skull fractures and hemorrhages. Berger said that it was caused by the dog jumping up on the baby, which doctors said was extremely unusual but not impossible. Berger later said his right hand may have hit the baby when he was trying to get the dog down, according to the report.
