Dear Editor,

Although many Americans loath and detest at least one of the Presidential candidates, and in many cases both, we have to accept that either Hillary or Donald will be our President starting in January 2017. These options were defined by a people that, for the most part, has slowly disengaged themselves from the political process.

This election reveals that many Americans are depending on a “savior” to solve both real and imagined problems. However, it's important in a democracy that the people participate in the process to address and resolve policy issues or Government mismanagement. Our Constitution begins with the words "We the people” and not “he or she the leader.” Unfortunately, people who don't participate in the “system” or don't understand it are most prone to believe it's completely corrupt.

I contend we have a good system of Government that has some flaws, just as they exist in the private sector. The flaws in our Government cannot be solved by one person. It requires us to be informed citizens who participate in State and Federal matters. Voting isn’t enough. We must be willing to express our concerns and ideas to our representatives. It's time for America to awake again.
