Lansdale Middle School Students Donate To Manna on Main Street

Local middle school children will present Manna on Main Street with a $300 check after a year of hard work.

LANSDALE, PA -- Pennbrook Middle School’s Baking Club has proven to provide both enjoyment and success for students, faculty and the community.

The Baking Club consists of about 10 Pennbrook upperclassmen students, as club advisors and Family and Consumer Science (FCS) teacher and club advisor Cheryl Doyle requires that members are in grades 8 or 9. FCS is a required class for 7th and 8th graders, so these older students have the experience and skills necessary to partake in the club such as recipe calculation, product cost analysis, proper sanitation technique, and recipe preparation, according to North Penn.

The Pennbrook Baking Club puts their skills in the kitchen to good use by baking treats to sell at school sporting events throughout the year. Students tackled recipes including cake pops, saltine toffee, muddy buddies, chocolate covered pretzels and the team’s personal favorite, “brookies,” which is a treat with a fudge brownie bottom and a crisp, cookie top. The team gathered twice a week to plan and bake, and sold their treats at a variety of Pennbrook sporting events, the district said.

At the end of the year, the Baking Club gathered to discuss where to invest their earnings, and unanimously decided to donate the money to a local charity. By popular vote, the Pennbrook Baking Club selected Manna on Main Street for the second year in a row to receive the donation. Manna is a charity located on Main Street in Lansdale that is committed to ending hunger in the North Penn region by providing food, fulfilling social service and education needs, and conducting community outreach.

Pennbrook Baking Club members will join together after school at their final meeting on Thursday, May 26th to present a check for $300.00 to Paige Harker, the Development Officer at Manna on Main Street, while indulging in their own homemade treats.
